Preto treba dbať na potraviny, ktoré do konzumujete, pretože v dnešnom svete je ťažké ustrážiť čo nakupujete, pokiaľ nemáte informácie. Medzi potraviny s nízkym GI sa zaraďuje celozrnná múka, med, ovocie, zelenina, hnedé cestoviny (biele nie sú oveľa horšie), zemiaky.
